Professional Mentor Texts

It is important that we surround ourselves with a library of professional reading materials that can help us create meaningful literacy activities. We can also share our love and passion for reading with our students by doing so. In the text Teach Writing Well; How to assess writing, Invigorate instruction, & Rethink revision by author Ruth Culham, teachers are provided ways to rethink the writing process and specifically the "traits of writing". Helping students work in partners, small groups, or individually to revise and assess their writing is more engaging with the student-friendly scoring guides/rubrics that are presented. |

For my Action Book Club, my partner and I read the text Reading Revealed, By: Diane Stephens, Jerome. C Harste, and Jean Ann Clyde. This book gave a multitude of strategies teachers can use to get to know the readers in their classrooms, understand the components that go into the process of reading, how to create engaging literacy lessons, and ways to become aware of the language we use. This mentor text is a great addition to any professional library because it gives hands on examples of the lessons presented and videos to support how student engagement is enhanced with these strategies. |
